My shimano zee mech sometimes doesnt shift to the lower gears(bigger sprockets), but has no trouble going into a higher gear. Is this because of the cable tension?

Amazing how you come round to someone. Doddy at first made me think I might have to skip GMBN but now he has quickly found his niche and has all the authority and tech know how you could want.

How about when u shift to lowest gear( high cog ) and is so hard to shift/push the shifter?
What's the cause for that ?

  • 20.09.2017 в 00:41

Great video.. I have an XT m8000 with clutch but it's gone very stiff and not snapping back properly on the last 3 small cogs leaving my chain very loose…. any ideas?

  • 20.09.2017 в 00:43

How do you guys keep your chains so clean!! I clean mine and within an hour the chain is black and full or crud 😡

  • 20.09.2017 в 01:04

Ah, yes. I have a problem. My eagle shifter stripped it's threads, and the matchmaker bolt disappeared on the trail. What to do?

  • 20.09.2017 в 01:18

I have an issue with my shifting, when i'm on the around middle cogs, i can't shift smoothly, my chain slaps to the bigger cogs. i'm sure there's nothing to do with limit screws on that position. i see both L and H limit screws don't touch the mech. And also when i'm on the lower or higher cogs it feels smooth.
Only occur this issue when i'm on certain middle cogs.
any idea how to solve this?

Funny story — at least I hope so — I had a chain that was getting worn and it broke on the trail. I put it back together and realized it was making a terrible clicking sound. So I played with shifting settings and could not get rid of the click. So I got my new chain, same issue. Rode this was for probably a week and finally was so frustrated I took the chain off and it was then that I realized I had put the chain around front of the derailleur between the jockey wheels. Yeah, that's me. And yet I still let myself work on my own bike.

I know it's not great for chain retention or gear range but you can get away with a LOT less maintenance on 8/9speed derailleurs. I've seen peoples run the stock XT 8 speed derailleurs that came on their bikes for more than 15 years. Because of the larger distance between gears on the cassette, you have that much room for error/misalignment before it starts to negatively effect shifting.

Hanger alignment tools aren't necessarily expensive. Of course you can buy a ParkTool for a hundred bucks, but there ones for around 30 euros that work just fine. And also, if you still have a wheel with 9mm quick release axles, they fit into the hole of the hanger, and you can then use the wheel to align the hanger until both wheels are parallel to another.

That moment you read the following… "the top 5 shitting problems you'll have and how to solve them

  • 20.09.2017 в 10:59

as if you knew i have this problem right now. and even the derailleur is the exact same i have. thanks GMBN 😀

  • 20.09.2017 в 11:12

Can't wait till sealed gearboxes or at least electronic shifting will become commonplace so people would stop wondering how on earth to set up a rear derailleur

  • 20.09.2017 в 12:09

#askgmbn I"m having problems with my derailleur coming loose at times even when i tighten it, it seems to become loose again. is Lock tight a solution i should look into to stop the bolt loosening?

I am running a "full" shimano zee drivetrain with a sram pg-1050 cassette (11-32T) , 11-12-13T being the highest gears.
All my shifting is going smooth as butter but I just can't seem to shift from the 13T into the 12T smoothly, from 13T to 11T does work. Going from the 11T to the 12T is fine as well just going from 13T to 12T struggles whilst everything else shifts smoothly. Any ideas? #AskGMBN

I saw Martyn‘s post (about that corridor in a hospital) on Instagram and that was extremely inspiring. Such a great way to make you think about how lucky you are to NOT be disabled and to be grateful for it. Really touching.

  • 20.09.2017 в 20:00

Perfect timing. I crashed last night and bend the hanger, i manged to bend it back on first try with the spanner and the derailleur is shifting fine again

  • 20.09.2017 в 20:32

How to stop a rattle from internal cable routing? It's really annoying. My Canyon spectral has a reverb stealth cable which I think is the reason. I ve seen tips on putting cable tiers around the cable but I guess I have to disassemble the control to get the cable far out enough to put the tiers on and then I have to bleed the post?

  • 20.09.2017 в 20:34

What is the cause of your chain moving up a couple of gears (smaller sprockets) if you pedal backwards?
